    Quick question: In 2024 is it ever o.k. that a Development Director and CEO of a nonprofit outright refuse to make financial contributions to their organization? (In my current experience, the justification is that both have given WAY more to the organization in time, energy, and commitment.)

    Interesting question, @clay! I think there are funders who look to see how many staff and board give. Not how much they give … but that they give. When it comes to capacity, I always defer to the individual and their own ability to give.

    ‘Meaningful’ giving means different things to different people. It could be that leadership is worried what the board will think (if their gift is too small, etc.).
