I’ve spent the past 35 years telling stories—I got my first newspaper job at The Knoxville (TN) Journal in 1989 and have been growing ever since—I still pinch myself that I’ve gotten paid all these years to do what I love to do! At first, it was still photos only and then blossomed into the written word as well.

I have always gravitated to the “ordinary”—especially to lives and lifestyles that I didn’t understand. My camera has provided me with clarity about how and why the world works—or doesn’t.

Who I am is constantly evolving: I learned to cook when I was 40, the same year I got married. We adopted a child when I was 50, and since then I have also taken up gardening and pottery making—I like to get my hands dirty. It’s the visceral quality of soil and clay that speaks to me!
