I then ask them to report back on their progress, successes and challenges. This helps them build confidence as they advocate, encourage, and ask their peers to support our organization.

If they lean towards economic development then I make sure the narrative includes the economic impact of our event. If they focus on health or community benefit, I make sure to include the mental or emotional health of our event and the sense of community pride that is instilled. When a granting board sees their benefactor’s intent reflected in the request, it becomes much easier to receive funding.

I then ask them how they see our annual arts festival reflect their businesses’ values or mission in the event. If they don’t see a direct connection, I offer possibilities where their commitment to quality, service, community, etc. can be seen through the Smoky Hill River Festival and the difference they make by supporting the event.

Hello Marti, I greatly appreciate all who work in the developmental disability field. My hometown has an excellent service provider, The Occupational Center of Central Kansas which offers a wide range of services and has been a great resource partner to our department.
