Day 1: Coffee time!

Ok here we go!  Today’s task is straight forward and based on the first part of Beth’s framework – Establish rapport with your donor.

Schedule a virtual coffee break with a donor for an informal conversation. Frame it as a “Donor Connection Café” where the focus is on the donor’s recent interests or changes in their life, inviting them to share their stories in a relaxed setting.

And if you or your donor would rather meet IRL – even better!

Here’s the scoop: Getting to know your donor is like starting a new friendship. You chat, share stories, and find out what makes each other tick.

The goal of this ‘coffee break’ is not to ask for money — but discovering what lights up your donor’s world.

It’s a win-win: you get to break the ice, and they feel like a rockstar, not just a wallet.

This can lead to a real bond, and before you know it, you’ll both be looking forward to your next coffee talk. Plus, the better you know each other, the easier it is to team up to make real change happen.

Once you’ve reached out to the donor, let us know in the comments how you picked the donor to invite for coffee and how you asked them!

I sent this message Monday. I just heard back from the donor. She was very happy to hear from me and we’re setting something up next week.

    Dear [name],

I know that you told Kevin that Kent and you do not need a meeting with Ryan and me, but I was wondering if you would like to get together with me and chat about MIM? This would not be a fundraising meeting, but rather an opportunity for us to catch up, let you know about some of the things we have in the works, and for me to get some advice/feedback from you. This could be just us girls or Kent is welcome to join us too.

Cynthia also mentioned the three of us getting together for wine, which could be the same gathering or an additional one.

Let me know if you are interested. I would love the chance to talk for longer than the few minutes we are afforded before a concert.

    Jenny
